The Consulate General of India, Chicago, US India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), and Sannam S4 invite you for a discussion with the new Consul General in Chicago, Mr. Amit Kumar, about US-India collaboration on higher education. The objective of the session is to introduce Provosts, Vice Provosts, and Senior International Officers of US higher education institutions, particularly those located in the Midwest US, to the new Consul General and for him to share his priorities related to the sector in his new post. India’s historic release of its National Education Policy 2020 provides opportunities for foreign universities to form a cohesive strategy for engaging India on student and faculty mobility, internationalization best practice, and joint research and we will explore those opportunities in this session.
Mr. Amit Kumar assumed charge as Consul General of India in Chicago on April 4th, 2020, succeeding Mr. Sudhakar Dalela who served from April 14, 2019, to April 03, 2020. Consul General Kumar is a career diplomat and joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1995. He has wide-ranging experience having served in Headquarters and in several Indian Missions abroad. He has dealt with both bilateral and multilateral work in diverse areas such as political, strategic, and economic spheres. Prior to taking up his current assignment as the Consul General of India in Chicago, he was the Deputy Chief of Mission in the Embassy of India, Washington DC with Ambassador-rank. His recent assignments included stints as Joint Secretary for Development Partnership Administration and as Joint Secretary for Human Resources Management in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. He was also Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Tokyo. He has previously served as Under Secretary (China) and Director in the Foreign Secretary’s Office in New Delhi. This will be a unique opportunity to interact with and share your institution’s priorities with the Consul General and is part of an ongoing initiative called the US India Knowledge Exchange, which was created in order to facilitate partnerships and joint research between the two countries.
